Tree Bridge [NAT]

OS 1:2500 map, 1965.

(NT 2518 4054) Tree Bridge: There was a bridge over Eddleston Water at the foot of the Bridgegate, before the original bridge (NT24SE 12) connecting the west end of the High Street with the foot of the Old Town was built, probably in the 15th century.

J W Buchan and H Paton 1925

NT 2518 4053. The existing Tree Bridge - an iron bridge - shows no sign of antiquity. No further information obtained.

Visited by OS (EGC) 23 Februry 1962

OS (EGC) confirmed.

Visited by OS (SFS) 16 September 1974.

This bridge carries Bridgegate over the Eddleston (or Eddlestone) Water to the W of the centre of Peebles (NT24SE 49). It thus connects the old and new parts of the town.
