Archaeology Notes

NT24NW 22 24 48.

A Late Bronze Age ribbed axe, measuring 3 1/2" by 1 3/4", from Darnhall Moss, was donated to the National Museum of Antiquties of Scotland (NMAS) in 1785 (Accession no. DE 1) (A LBA cauldron was found at NT 2266 4594, in an area of peat SW of Darn Hall - see NT24NW 13; possibly this is the Moss referred to).

(Socketed axe of Yorkshire type). Single find. Socketed axe, corroded but in places still smooth, green, untrimmed, haft ribs. Length 84mm, mouth 26 x 28mm, cutting edge 46mm, weight 250 gms. NMAS DE 1.
