Archaeology Notes

NT14SE 30 c.150 427.

A battle-axe (Roe's Class III A) measuring 4" x 1.7" across the cutting face x 1.75" thick, with a haft hole 0.87" diameter, from Ladyurd (NT 150 427) was purchased for the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS) in 1910 (Accession no: AH 137).

This battle-axe is of Intermediate-Developed variant form. It has been petrologically identified as porphyritic olivine basalt.
