Archaeology Notes

NT04NE 15 0679 4566.

On Borland Farm, near Walston Well, there are two caves, probably artificial, having been driven in search for lead etc. at the time of James V by a company of Germans.

New Statistical Account (NSA) 1845 (J Wilson)

(Area centred: NT 0679 4566) These two caves have long since fallen in according to local information. On the slopes around Walston Well are several small quarry holes. It would appear most likely that the caves were in this area.
