Archaeology Notes

NC40SE 7 47 01.

A MBA bronze anvil, found in a cairn near the mouth of the River Cassley about 1871, was donated to the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS) by the Duke of Sutherland in 1891 (DO 30).

It takes the form of a flattened conical block 3 3/4" long from which there extends a supporting projection and on the top of which there are fine grooves for the shaping of bronze wire or for gold-working.
