"Mains Distillery (Disused): A collection of buildings about 1/2 mile SW of the town of Linlithgow on the road to Bathgate. It consisted of the usual departments and apparatus in such establishments. It was burned about 20 years ago and since then has ceased distilling; portions of the adjoining buildings are still used as malt lofts and there are three rows of cottages let to labourers etc. It was for two or three years subsequently a pyroligneous acid work. It is the property of Mr J Aitkin and Co., Falkirk."
