The Place, the name of a farm close to Wiston village (Wiston Place: NS 956 320) seems to indicate that it was at one time the seat of the proprietor.

This could be a site comparable with the Place at Symington (NS93SE 6, q.v.). Origines Paroch Scot (OPS 1851) notes that one "Wice of Wicestone" appears in mid-12th century charters, and numerous references are made to the barony of Wiston after that date. (cf NS93SE 7)
