(Undated) information in NMRS.
(Location cited as NS 880 824). Carron Ironworks, founded 1759. A large complex of buildings of various dates. Most of the older buildings and equipment have been demolished, but the main office block, a long two-storey and attic range built in 1876, is still in use. On the other side of the road from the offices can be seen the canal which linked the works to the River Carron. One of the most interesting survivals is the water-supply system, with a long lade from the river Carron (at NS 856 820) to reservoirs just W of the works.
J R Hume 1976.
The Iron Works are visible on a series of WW II oblique air photographs (No.1 CAM, AF815-AF817), flown 8 May 1942. The photographs show the works with partial camouflaging.
