It is possible that a peel tower stood at Mosscastle, where Forrest shows a castle in ruins on his map (of 1816).

Mosscastle farm (NS 845 226) derives its name from a castellated building which stood near it; the site cannot now be ascertained.

Name Book 1858

There is no trace of ruins or building foundations at Mosscastle. Local enquiries produced no further information.
