Archaeology Notes

NS79SW 8 7120 9292.

NS 711 928.950' contour, W top of fall, a steading 16 x 4m, 2 roomed, round-ended with adjoining enclosure. To N, at edge of crags, is a circular structure, 15m in diameter, round an outcrop of rock.

T C Welsh 1971

NS 7120 9292. An oval enclosure 14.0m N-S by 12.5m, built of rough, undressed stone. The wall has a maximum width of 2.0m and there is no apparent entrance. The presence of a large rock outcrop in the middle makes it unlikely that this feature was in use either as a dwelling or a sheepfold. The N part of the enclosure appears to have been built against the rock outcrop and it is possible that this is a sheep-shelter of no great age. The steading mentioned by Welsh is at NS 7121 9282.
