(NS 7123 9819) Skeleton of a Whale found (NAT)

OS 6" map (1958)

A whale's skeleton was found in October 1824 at Burnbank, on Blair Drummond estate. With it was a fragment of antler with a hole bored through it; a small piece of wood was in the hole. The bones and antler were donated to the Anatomical Museum, Edinburgh University, but the antler has been lost, and no drawing or detailed description published, though Turner considers that it probably was similar to the mesolithic antler axe described on NS79NW 32, and it is classified as such by the RCAHMS.
