(NS 7811 8860) Dovecot (NR)

OS 6" map (1967)

This rectangular dovecot measures 24'11" x 15'3" overall. It is rubble-built and has a penthouse roof. There are two compartments, each with a doorway in the S wall. Both chambers are lined with nesting-boxes. Originally, a carved stone panel was set centrally above the doorways, but this has now fallen and lies among debris at the foot of the S wall. Dated 1700, it also bears a coat of arms and the much-worn initials I G and M F.
