Summary Record (2015)

Dating from 1881, this brick and concrete built, 2 storey, 7 by 2 bay building was built for Sir JR Maitland as part of his pioneering fish rearing management system based at Howietoun Fishery. The building was built on a slope in order to use gravity to allow water to flow through the hatching bins or tanks. The fish hatched here are either shipped to customers or can be raised further and put into the nursery ponds at Howietoun to the north.

Infoamtion from RCAHMS (MMD), 15 January 2015.
