Archaeology Notes

NS66SW 5 603 628.

(Centred NS 6030 6285) "The road crosses the Rutherglen Burn, which falls into the Clyde at Little Govan, nearly opposite the well known bathing space in Glasgow Green. Close to the bridge over the burn are the Shawfieldbank printworks. Immediately adjacent is an extensive dam. Prior to the formation of this dam an ancient tumulus or burial mound occupied part of the space now covered by its waters. This was removed about the end of the 18th century.

D Ure 1793; H Macdonald 1854.

Cairn (possible), Shawfield (Site): noted by the RCAHMS, who give no additional information.

RCAHMS 1978.
