Archaeology Notes

NS65NW 9 6003 5770.

About 80 silver coins of Elizabeth to Charles I were found, wrapped in a hougger, embedded in the wall of an outhouse on the farm of Gallowhill when it was taken down in 1832.

The coins and hougger were taken to Castlemilk House.

Information from the Glasgow Courier, 25 September 1832.

NS 6003 5770 - The site of the outhouse could not be located, but it is assumed that it was in the vicinity of the farm-house. Nothing is known regarding this coin hoard (information from J G Scott, Kelvingrove Museum, Glasgow).

Visited by OS (J F C) 25 March 1954.
