(NS 6633 1297) Martyrs' Monument (NAT)

OS 6" map (1958)

Two Covenanters, named Corson and Hair, were caught by soldiers in a hollow on Cairn farm and shot on the spot. A stone pillar on the south side of the Sanquhar - New Cumnock road marks the spot where they are buried.

A modern monument inscribed "George Corson and John Hair. Shot for adherence to there faith in 1685."
