Archaeology Notes

NS56NE 25 5906 6530.

Workmen found small portions of human bones mixed with ashes, small pieces of charcoal, and the broken remains of earthen vessels, at a depth of 9' when digging the foundations of the branch of the Commercial Bank being built at Glasgow (centred NS 5865). The relics were confined to a very narrow ridge or trench, which extended in length to about 12 - 14', running E-W.

No further information was found during field investigation.

Visited by OS (W M J) 3 September 1951.

The Glasgow branch of the Royal Bank was built in 1827 (at NS 5906 6530) a few yards W of the Exchange.
