Archaeology Notes

NS55NE 22 579 567.

NS 579 567. Enclosure, Busby Glen. Inside the public park on the E lip of the gorge of the White Cart Water, at a point where the river bends slightly to the NW, a low bank, 4.8m in thickness and 0.5m in height, cuts off a roughly triangular area measuring 18m from N to S by 21m transversely (see plan). The site has been disturbed by the planting and removal of trees and by the insertion of a concrete foundation, but three large boulders lying close together on the N side may represent part of a revetment for the bank. The entrance lies in the extreme NW, alongside the cliff edge.

RCAHMS 1978, visited 1975.

On the E side of this enclosure is a possible rectangular foundation measuring 6m by 8m over walls 1.5m thick.

Information contained in letter from T C Welsh to OS 2 January 1981, visited 1980, and typescript by T C Welsh, undated.
