The site of a skirmish, the graves of which are still visible, lies about 3/4 mile W of South Dell, a little to the W of the find-spot of the Viking armlets and rings (NB46SE 3).
Information contained in letters from A Smith, 8, South Dell to the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS)
2 and 30 November 1938.
At NB 4725 6149, in a slight depression, are several low mounds about 2.0m by 1.5m average size, one of which has stones set at either end. According to Mr Smith they are traditionally the graves of men killed in a skirmish between the Macaulays and the Morrisons about 400-500 years ago, but they are much more likely to be natural peat hags with a few chance stones showing, beside a small modern sub-rectangular enclosure. Not an antiquity.
