(NS 5681 1131) Medieval Coin Hoard found AD 1834 (NAT)

OS 6" map (1968)

A large number of small coins of Edward I and Alexander of Scotland, enclosed in a small earthen jar and well preserved, were dug up in 1834 (H J Steven 1899) at about the spot marked on the plan (Name Book 1856) on Whitehill farm. In 1838, some of the coins were in the possession of G Rankin, Whitehill; the labourer who dug them up retained the remainder of the coins and the jar.
