(Approx. NS 4727 8713) The Earls of Lennox had a castle near the Moot Hill at Catter.

G Chalmers 1890.

The stronghold of the Earls of Lennox at Catter was described as a manor-house in 1505. No trace of the manor house remains.

J Irving 1879.

Although no conclusive evidence could be found, the existence of a cobbled area at the rear of Catter House at NS 4711 8708 together with very small windows in, and a spiral staircase from, the now modernised basement, suggest that the present house is possibly on the site of the 16th century manor house.

Visited by OS (R D) 17 March 1965.
