Polkelly was acquired by the Cochrans about 1650 (J Dobie 1876). Its foundations were removed some years before 1856 and used in making a road to the adjoining farms.

The site of Pokelly Castle forms an oval, grass-covered mound, measuring 23m NW-SE by 16m transversely; its NW side has been quarried out. No structural remains survive.

Ground evidence would suggest that the castle foundations were entirely removed prior to 1856. The quarrying mentioned is in the form of a regular, sub-rectangular depression, approximately 12 by 8m and 0.5m deep, which possibly reflects the general size of the tower. Some debris may have fallen or been dumped on a natural rise on the SE side of the excavation, forming the amorphous, turf-covered mound described by OS (EGC).
The present owner of Pokelly Hall (NS 456 452) knows nothing of the history of this site.
