(NS 3099 1039) Standing Stone (NR)

OS 25" map (1965)

There is a standing stone of grey granite, 4ft high by 3ft 4ins by 2ft 7ins on the summit of rising ground on Lyonstone. It is larger at the top, and very much rounded at the angles.

A large standing stone, broader at the top than at the base, 1.4m high, as described by Smith.

The weatered stone is unmarked and as previously described. According to local historian Mr J Gray Snr (4 Culzean Rd, Maybole), its local name is 'Lyonston' - from which the nearby farm took its name.

This standing stone, which is situated on a low rise 210m ESE of Lyonston steading, is a rounded granite boulder about 1.4m high.
