Archaeology Notes

NS20SW 2 c. 20 04

A large cairn of stones stood on Balkenna, at about the level of the new shore road. Several cists with human remains were found when it was removed.

J Smith 1895.

There is no trace of this cairn to be seen in the vicinity of Balkenna Cottages and Bridge (NS 201 046).

No further information.

Visited by OS (WDJ), 7 March 1967.

There are no remains of this cairn. Balkenna is now part of the farm of Drumbeg.
