The Southern Cairn, or "Lady's Grave", at the Holm, near Tomantend, is a mound of stones, on the old raised beach about 30 yds from the shore, about 6ft high and 40ft in circumference, in which was found, on the 12th September 1878, a short cist containing an urn and burnt bones. The urn is in the Kelvingrove Museum. (Lady's Grave is the name applied by the ONB to a site to the N - see NS15NE 5).
J MacGown 1883; Scottish National Memorials 1890; J K Hewison 1893.
NS 1830 5889. The cairn which is now bracken and turf covered, is sub-circular c.10.0m diameter and 1.2m maximum height. The centre is hollowed to a depth of 0.2m, possibly the result of the excavation mentioned by MacGown. See NS15NE 5 field report for comment on Lady's Grave.
