Archaeology Notes (1973 - 1977)

NS03NW 23 009 366.

The only possible pitchstone working site on Arran is exposed at the back of Brodick schoolhouse (NS 009 366) and in Stronach Wood where it runs for about 350 yds in a roughly W-SW direction. It is dark green, almost black in colour. Scott considered that the finds from Dunagoil in Bute probably originated here.

Source: P R Ritchie 1968.

The indicated site lies in dense forestry and scrub and the working area could not be identified. No further information.

Visited by OS (T R G) 1 November 1977.
