(NR 8205 9585) Standing Stone (NR)

OS 6" map, Argyllshire, 2nd ed., (1900)

This standing stone measures 8'5" x 2'10" max, axis NW. There is a possible small cupmark on its SE edge.

M Campbell and M Sandeman 1964.

Generally as described. There is no evidence of a cup mark.

Resurveyed at 1:2500.

Visited by OS (IA) 4 May 1973.

This standing stone is 2.6m high, 0.8m broad and o.4m thick. There are no cup marks evident. There is, however, a faint depression in the SE face 0.8m above ground level, but this is probably natural.

Surveyed at 1/10,000.

Visited by OS (TRG) 12 April 1977.

Activities

Field Visit (May 1982)

This stone, situated on a terrace 600m SSW of Rowanfield Cottage, is aligned NNW-SSE; it measures 2.6m in height and 0.8m by 0.4m at the base, from which it rises with straight sides to an irregular top. A shallow depression 50mm in diameter, which is visible on the SSE side of the stone at a point about 0.7m above ground level, is probably of natural origin (Campbell and Sandeman 1964).

Visited May 1982

RCAHMS 1988
