Archaeology Notes

NR64SE 4 6991 4406.

(NR 6990 4404) A cup and ring marked stone is situated a little over 275m ENE of Drumnamucklach and 14m S of the stone wall that runs eastwards uphill from the S side of the policies of Killean House. Now leaning against another stone, from which it appears to have been broken, it measures 1.5m by 1.0m, the upper surface sloping to the W. It bears two ringed cups, one with a single complete oval ring and part of a second, the other with one incomplete ring to which there is attached a shallow curving groove incorporating three plain cups, while a fourth cup abuts on the ring itself. Elsewhere there are at least four plain cups. The markings are up to 0.013m deep.

RCAHMS 1971, visited 1961; R W B Morris 1977.

The cup-and-ring-marked stone is as described and illustrated by the previous authorities.

Surveyed at 1:2500

Visited by OS (J B) 13 December 1977.
