Activities

Desk Based Assessment (4 May 2021)

Nothing is visible in what is now a cultivated field of a corn mill depicted 140m N of Waulkmill on the 1st edition of the OS 25-inch map (Perthshire 1866, Sheet LXXXVI.5). The mill stood, like several others, on a lade that was taken off the River Tay at Cambusmichael, some 4.6km to the NNE. The mill is annotated ‘Corn Mill’ on the 1st edition map but it is not named. However, it is referred to in the OS Name Book entry for Innerbuist Mill, some 165m to the N, (Perthshire Vol. 75, p.8). It notes that ‘A new corn mill recently built on the site of an old mill is situated a short distance to the south and belongs to the same establishment; both mills are worked by water and are of 10 horse power. Property of the Earl of Mansfield.’. The mill is not shown on the 2nd edition of the 25-inch map (1901) and it had presumably been removed by the end of the 19th century.
