Activities

Watching Brief (September 2019 - October 2019)

NH 74705 44961 A programme of archaeological works was carried out for National Trust for Scotland in relation to the erection of new signage at Culloden Battlefield. The work took place in September and October 2019.

The foundation holes for the signs were hand dug and the spoil swept with a metal detector. The foundations for the two megalith boards measured 1 x 0.5m and were excavated to a depth of 0.8m. Both were filled with dark brown stony loam that came onto subsoil of pale-yellow clay. Two glass and three terracotta ceramic sherds were recovered from one of the foundation holes. No archaeological features were recorded.
