Archaeology Notes

HY75SE 11 7610 5409.

A mound at Finyar House Brae, North Ronaldsay, produced three bronze pins with ornamental heads which were purchased for the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS) in 1906. The location of the mound is not known.

Proc Soc Antiq Scot 1907 (Purchases); RCAHMS 1946, visited 1928.

These pins were found at HY 7610 5409 when a road was cut through the N side of Finyar House Brae, an apparently natural rise.

Surveyed at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (AA) 23 July 1970.

These pins are dateable to the post-Roman (ie late Iron Age) period, or even later. (Accession Nos: FC 180-82).

(Undated) information from Dr D Clarke (NMAS).
