Activities

Watching Brief (March 2018)

ND 2287 7378 A watching brief was undertaken, March 2018, during groundwork in advance of the construction of a house (No 2) and access road on land 50m W of Sogno Cottage, Brough, The area was considered of interest as a desk-based assessment had identified a number of archaeological sites in the immediate area, including a 19th-century farmstead and an extensive area of possible medieval rig and furrow. A sequence of uniform stone-free silty loam topsoil and clay substrate deposits were recorded across the site, and the only artefacts were a few sherds of modern white and transfer-printed wares, which were not retained.
