Metal Detector Find

NJ 82 09 A small, slender copper alloy socketed gouge was found while metal-detecting at Westhill. This object is largely complete. The cutting edge is thick and blunt and there is no evidence of an elaborated socket mouth or collar. The gouge is covered in a pitted mottled green and brown corrosion. It can be dated to the Late Bronze Age (c.1000–800 BC). Length 51.5mm; cutting edge width 14.3mm; surviving socket diameter 15.5 x 15.1mm; weight 30.07g.

Claimed as Treasure Trove (TT 01/19) and allocated to University of Aberdeen Museums and Special Collections
