(NO 7079 6428) Castle of Morphie (NR) (site of)

OS 1:10000 map (1976)

Nothing can be seen of Castle of Morphie, which was situated on the tip of a promontory 500m WNW of Morphie farmhouse.

It is said (NSA 1845) to have been a castle defended by a wall, ditch and drawbridge; the site is naturally defended on two sides. The foundations were removed some years before 1863, in which year no trace remained: a dead yew tree, noted at that time, was said to have stood in the castle garden.

RCAHMS 1982; Name Book 1863
