(NO 6113 6510) Tumulus (NR)

OS 6" map, (1959)

Sometimes called Law Hillock

Name Book 1860.

A mutilated turf covered mound of earth and few stones, situated in a wood. It is truncated on the NW by a road, on the SE by a terraced track, and has also been quarried. It now measures c. 26.0m NNE to SSW overall which may be the original diameter, by c 20.0m transversely. It is probably a barrow. Immediately outside the S arc is a denuded bank c 2.0m wide, which does not follow the curve of the mound and may be a later plantation dyke. The name 'Law Hillock' is no longer known.

Resurveyed at 1:2500

Visited by OS (J L D) 15 July 1958 and (R L) 26 August 1971.
