Activities

Metal Detector Survey (2 April 2017 - 3 April 2017)

NH 73217 44985 A metal detector survey was undertaken, 2–3 April 2017, in advance of the construction of an agricultural building within the designated area of Culloden Battlefield. A total of 32 items of metalwork were retained for further analysis; the majority of which were associated with modern agricultural activity. The most significant item recovered was

a fragment of powder measure, highly likely to be related to the 1746 Battle of Culloden. Various copper alloy buttons were identified including an 18th-century ‘dandy’ button.
