Metal Detector Find (2016)

NO 49 56 Fragment of medieval rowel spur, cast in copper alloy. There is also a small trace of gilt surviving in sheltered areas. Rowel spurs came into use in the 13th century, replacing earlier prick spurs. This example is in poor condition but still an interesting find; medieval spurs are uncommon finds, not least as many are likely to be made of iron.

Claimed as Treasure Trove (TT 58.16) allocated to Meffan Museum, Forfar (F2017.19)
