Architecture Notes

The statue to Wojtek the Soldier Bear was erected in Princes Street Gardens by the Wojtek Memorial Trust. The bronze statue was sculpted by Alan Herriot and unveiled on the 7th November 2015. It memorialises a Syrian brown bear that was adopted as a cub by a group of Polish soldiers in WWII, and later travelled to Scotland with some of these soldiers. Wojtek lived with the soldiers at Winfield Aerodrome in Berwickshire, before ending his days in Edinburgh Zoo.
