Present location: in St Vigeans Museum (HES).
Evidence for discovery: found during the 1870s restoration and placed in the tower. It was taken into St Vigeans Museum in 1960.
Present condition: two edges have been trimmed for re-use and the others are broken. The carving is very worn.
Description
Carved in relief on face A of this slab is a sturdy horse walking sedately. It bears a rider, whose head is missing but who is seated on a saddle-cloth and wearing a sword. A smaller human figure is seen in profile behind the horse’s neck, his feet well above ground.
Date range: eighth to tenth century.
