Place of discovery: NS c 5537 6588
Present location: in the transept of Govan Old Parish Church.
Evidence for discovery: excavated from the churchyard sometime between 1884 and c1900 when it was photographed close to the east wall of the churchyard. It was moved into the church in 1926 and into the north aisle in 1965.
Present condition: less weathered than the other four Govan hogbacks, but the ridge has a concave area probably created by sharpening iron blades.
Description
This hogback has a broad flat ridge, and on each long side there are four rows of oblong and concave-sided tegulae. Beneath the tegulae there is a wide plain band. The ends are carved with pairs of beasts facing one another across the gable and ornamented with interlace.
Date: late tenth century.
