Field Visit (4 May 2016)
This water-powered, wood built electricity generating station has a corrugated iron roof with a corrugated iron patch on its south wall and a wooden floor. It was built to provide electricity to the wood working buildings in the vicinity.
Its wood encased, metal rimmed, overshot waterwheel took water from an offshoot of the main lade feeding the sawmill to the west (NO59SE 22.02) and the wood turning mill to the east (NO59SE 22.01). The water from the wheel then dropped into the now disuse lower lade.
The electricity generating station contains a Crompton Parkinson of Chelmsford and Guiseley (electrical manufacturing company, founded 1927, electric motor works closed 2004) brushed DC electric motor (no. F6141195; Brake Horse Power = 3; 220 volts; 1450 r.p.m.; 13.4 amps; Shunt Wound).
It is surmised that the building and the plant date from at least the 1930s as Crompton Parkinson built their Guiseley factory near Leeds during that decade and the wood turning mill was significantly remodelled in the late 1930s (Information from turning mill owner, Mr Duncan, 4th May 2016).
