Field Visit (2 February 2016)

This boundary stone, which marked part of the northern boundary of the War Department property around Edinburgh Castle, is situated in Princes Street Gardens, immediately north of the railway line. It is a rectangular sandstone block measuring 0.3m by 0.22m and 0.1m in height. On its upper surface, which is slightly rounded from front to rear, there is the incised inscription ‘Nº V’ and the date ‘1860’.
