Activities

Field Visit (9 September 2013 - 30 October 2013)

The remnants of the designed landscape of Longniddry House which survive to the present day represent only a small portion of the original landscape, much of the estate having been developed for housing during the 20th century. Longniddry House dates back to the 17th century but is likely to have replaced earlier buildings at or near this location. The gardens, orchards, walling, and woodlands were probably laid out when the house was extended in the late 18th or early 19th century. The landscape contains fragments of a rubble building in the garden walls known as 'John Knox's Kirk'.

Archival research and ground recording was undertaken by East Lothian Garden and Designed Landscape Survey Group under the auspices of the Garden History Society in Scotland funded by Historic Scotland.
