(NO 5124 4134) Urn found (NAT)

OS 6" map, (1970)

A small decorated food vessel (PSAS 1898) cinerary urn (Abercromby 1912) or 'incense urn' (c) 2 1/8" high and 3" in diameter across the mouth was found by Wm Adam on West Skichen farm in 1897. It has four, pierced, equi-distant lugs and tapers to a concave base only 1 3/4" in diameter. When found the urn was inverted, its base just protruding through the surface in the side of a sand and gravel knoll where the surface had given way. It was purchased for the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS) in 1898 (Accession no. EE96).
