Archaeology Notes

NO54NW 8 50 48.

An oval stone "of quartz, 3 3/4" in length, 3 1/4" in breadth, and 1 3/4" in greatest thickness, having an oval hollow 2 1/4" by 1 3/4" and 1/2" deep, scooped in one of its flat sides, the other bearing an oblique depression similar to those of the 'belt stones' of the Iron Age of Scandinavia" found at Dunnichen (NO 50 48), was donated to the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS) in 1880 by R Dickson (Accession no: AM 5).
