Activities

Field Visit (17 June 1931)

Cairn, The Wards.

On the top of an isolated summit on The Wards, known as Mid Field, is a ruinous cairn, once probably circular with a diameter of 26 ft. 6 in. There are indications of a rough surrounding wall, and on the SE there are traces of a built chamber near the present margin. The small rude shelters among the debris appear to be of recent construction.

Field Visit (13 June 1968)

HU25E 10 2657 5646.

All that remains of this cairn is a 'chamber' cleared of debris surrounded by an amorphous mass of cairn material, situated on a summit at HU 2657 5651. The cairn structure on its SE side and the shape and size of the cairn can no longer be ascertained.

The 'chamber', of slabs set on edge, measures 2.0m ENE-WSW by 1.0m NNW-SSE, and 0.5m deep, with an entrance gap in the centre of the SSE wall.
