Scottish Borders Smr Note

Derived from the Old English "cafor" meaning "the enclosures". It was burnt by an English force under Lord Dacre in league with Sir Walter Scott of Branxholme. In 1545 it was brent, rased and cast downe by the Earl of Hertford. According to the National Statistical Account the 'town' of Cavers was laid waste by the English Forces in 1596.
