A Viking sword found in a tumulus at Sties(J Anderson 1875) (interpreted as a man's grave by Wainwright) was in the possession of Walter Denison of Brough in 1874 and is now in the Hunterian Museum.
Dr Marwick was of the opinion that it had come from near the beach between Els Ness (HY 67 38) and Tress Ness (HY 70 38) presumably in the vicinity of Sty Wick (HY 68 38) (See also HY64SE 18).
RCAHMS 1946, visited 1928; F T Wainwright 1962; S Grieg 1940.
No further information. (See HY64SE30)
Visited by OS(NKB) 6 July 1970.
