Excavation (25 January 2012 - 4 April 2012)
An archaeological excavation was carried out by GUARD Archaeology Limited following the discovery of a single pit during a recent phase of archaeological evaluation at Ayr Road, Newton Mearns (GUARD 3388). The evaluation investigated 8% of the total area under investigation (2698 m²). An area measuring 225 m² was excavated around the pit to investigate for further archaeological features and to fully excavate and record the known feature. During the work no further features of archaeological interest were uncovered.
