NB 16021 00162 House of Dougal MacLeod

Built of dressed drystone, unmortared, but not traditional 'blackhouse' construction, approx N-S aligned. Central doorway, two windows to front, and fireplace in north wall. Against the S wall of the house are slight remains of a triangular stone-built extension with an entrance against the SW corner of the house, which gave the house a 'boat-shaped' appearance. There is local memory of traces of line in this section in the 1940s, from an earlier store, perhaps used in connection with the kelp-burning industry. A well-preserved sotne-built iodhlann (stack-yard or enclosure) to the fron t of the house. This house was occipied until the 1920s. It does appear on the modern )S mapping, but not the 1st ed OS map of 1882, wo should seem to have been in use from some time after then until the 1920s.
